Time slip! Experience a school from the Meiji era!
The Educational Museum located in Tome City, Miyagi Prefecture is a museum that uses the former Tome Elementary School building as it is. This is a recreation of a school in the Meiji era, and you can see the classrooms and teaching materials from that time.
It has been designated as a national important cultural property and is attracting attention as a building with high historical value.
The former Tome elementary school, built in 1888, was a two-story wooden school building that incorporated the latest technology at the time. After its role as an elementary school ended, it opened as an educational museum in 1984.
Police Museum : Former Tome Police Station building. It is extremely rare for an office building from the Meiji era, and was designated as a prefectural cultural property in 1988. It is open to the public as Japan's only "police museum" that exhibits police-related materials.
Mizusawa Prefectural Office Memorial Museum: Former prefectural office building. The history of the birth of Miyagi Prefecture and documents from the time of the court are on display.
Tome Nostalgia Museum: The museum exhibits valuable items that remind us of the time when Tome was a castle town, such as armor, swords, and paintings related to the Tome Date family. The roof made of natural slate from Tome Town blends in with the cityscape, and the Japanese garden, which can be entered from the front gate on the samurai residence street, has a calming appearance.
Toyama no sato:There is a tourist information center within the facility where you can purchase admission tickets to each of the Miyagi no Meiji Village museums. At the shop, we have a wide selection of local products, souvenirs, seasonal local fresh agricultural products, and handmade processed products, including Tome's famous "Abura-fu" and "Hatto".
