Kakigohri is an ice confectionery made from finely shaved ice and topped with syrup and condensed milk. It is a traditional summer food, and you can always find Kakigohri at the stalls at Japanese summer festivals.
The standard flavors are strawberry, melon, lemon, and blue Hawaii, with condensed milk added to them, but there are now luxurious flavors topped with fresh fruit-based sauces, rich matcha syrup, and bean paste. Nowadays, there are shops specializing in shaved ice, and you can eat it all year round.
Japanese ice cream often has a slightly lower fat content than Western ice cream. Some of them have zero fat content and are like solidified shaved ice. Additionally, flavors such as matcha, azuki, brown sugar syrup, and soybean flour are unique to Japan. For example, the world-famous Haagen-Dazs sells ice cream with Japan's unique yellow powder and brown sugar syrup flavors. Ice creams wrapped in mochi and ice cream wrapped in monaka dough are also unique to Japan. Recently, ice cream made from frozen jelly made with kudzu, called "kuzu bar", has also become popular as an ice cream that does not melt. Especially useful in hot summer.
In addition, each convenience store is putting effort into developing ice cream, and there are some luxurious ice creams that can only be tasted at that convenience store. Please check it.
